Verdant blades of screwpines
Twining betel
Petals of wax roses, a handful of cloves
Elixir from sandalwood
Extract of jasmine
Essence of patchouli
Gingers,
Red and white
For grace
And fragrance.
The first part of Niskala series. This piece depicts two female spirits collecting medicinal herbs and aromatic spices from the rainforest. The headdress they are wearing are inspired from traditional Javanese dance crowns.
Inspired by an indigenous form of herbalism, 'Jamu'.
